Ejaz Durrani: Famous actor and successful filmmaker of Pakistani film industry


Ejaz Durrani was one of those artists of the film industry who did not run after fame and fortune and always gave importance to his work. He was known to be good-natured and friendly. Ejaz Durrani was a well-known actor of the 1960s and 1970s and later worked as a filmmaker. Ijaz Durrani passed away on March 1, 2021. Today is his anniversary.

Ejaz Durrani has acted as an actor in around 150 Urdu and Punjabi films and also directed many successful films to the film industry, including the super hit Punjabi language film 'Heer Ranjha'.

Actor and filmmaker Ijaz Durrani was born on 18 April 1935 in a suburban village in a district near Jalalpur Jattan. After completing his primary education, he passed his BA from Jhelum and moved to Lahore, a city recognized as a film center of United India at that time. Here, 21-year-old Ijaz started his acting journey with the film 'Hameeda'. Ejaz Durrani was the possessor of Vijaya looks and attractive personality and soon he stood out among other male actors in the film world. His acting and personality made him popular among cinemagoers.

In the 1960s, Ijaz Durrani produced several films including 'Shaheed', 'Badnam', 'One in a Million', 'Behanbhai' and 'Zarqa'. Everyone loved Ejaz's acting in these films. Actress Ijaz was married to the popular heroine and singer of her time, Noor Jahan, but later Noor Jahan divorced her.

After films like 'Lakhon Mein Ek', 'Badnaam', Ijaz continued to find success in the 70s. His Punjabi film 'Anura' and then 'Heer Ranjha' took him to the heights of fame. Ejaz won the hearts of cinemagoers by playing the role of Ranjha. This was the film which became very popular and the pairing of Ejaz with the beautiful Nain Naqsh actress Firdous was very popular. Ejaz worked with popular and accomplished artists of his time and also played negative roles very well. After Heer Ranjha, Ejaz's successful film was 'Dosti' with the song 'Chathi Zara Sian Ji K Naam Lakh De' even today. Hearings are buzzing and people love to hear it. After his separation from Queen Tarnam Madam Noor Jahan, Ejaz married the daughter of the director of the film 'Dosti'.

Ejaz Durrani also owned Sangeet Cinemas in Lahore and Rawalpindi. As a filmmaker, he also gave Punjabi films 'Sholay' and 'Moola Bakhsh' to the film industry which were very successful at the box office. As an actress, Ejaz Durrani's last film was 'Jhomar Chor' which was released in 1986.
